Earthquake survivor confronts CHP's Hatay candidate Lütfü Savaş

In Hatay, which suffered the greatest destruction in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, the repercussions of the re-nomination of incumbent Mayor Lütfü Savaş by the CHP continue.

Savaş, who was visiting citizens as part of his election campaign, faced reactions from earthquake survivors.

An earthquake survivor approached Savaş and reacted by saying, "You came here today for yourself. Where were you when I was burying my dead? Where were you when the earthquake happened, Lütfü Savaş?"

Lütfü Savaş replied, "Well, I'm here now..."

Upon this, the earthquake survivor stated, "Look, I am very angry with you right now. I am speaking, you will not speak. I will ask for your answer later. I am very angry with you, but I am not losing my composure."

HIS RE-NOMINATION DRAWS REACTION FROM HATAY RESIDENTS

Lütfü Savaş, who was re-nominated by the CHP and whose candidacy has drawn reactions from Hatay residents due to the heavy destruction during the earthquake, became the AKP's candidate for Mayor of Antakya in the 2009 local elections and won with 47.3 percent of the vote.

Before the 2014 local elections, he resigned from the AKP and entered the elections as the CHP's Hatay candidate, becoming the Mayor of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality once again.

Savaş was most recently re-nominated by the CHP for Hatay in the 2019 local elections and emerged victorious from the ballot box.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL HAD SAID, "IT WILL BE A VERY HISTORIC DECISION"

On the other hand, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in a television program he attended in recent months, responded to the host's question, "Will you nominate the Hatay Mayor again for the next term?" by saying, "The decision we will make in Hatay will be a very historic one. If a city experiences destruction, everyone in that city has responsibility."
