Ece Üner draws attention to that detail regarding Narin Güran
Journalist Ece Üner made a striking comment regarding the investigation into Narin Güran, who went missing in Diyarbakır and for whom search efforts are ongoing. Pointing to the silence of the villagers, Üner said, "They are all silent; their silence says a lot."
Search efforts continue for Narin Güran, who went missing in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on August 21.
While all of Turkey waits for good news about Narin, who has not been heard from for 13 days, journalist Ece Üner drew attention to the silence of the villagers.
Speaking on Halk TV, Üner said, "They are all silent; their silence says a lot," and continued with the following remarks:
"A village is silent. All the relatives are silent, the mother is silent. In fact, they say a lot through their silence. With their gaze, with their body language... Many women feel they have to remain silent because they lack economic independence, because the father is the 'pillar of the family' in quotation marks, even if it involves incest within the family, even if fathers, uncles, and brothers are doing terrible things. 'God forbid anything happens to the pillar of my family.' I have experienced some situations; a father has molested his daughter, but the mother is hostile toward the daughter. She gives up on her daughter, and that girl finds her own way. Everyone is silent. This is where the importance of women comes to the fore."
