Economist Uğur Gürses makes a highly discussed claim about Mehmet Şimşek: There is a smear campaign within the AKP
Ankara's political circles have been stirred following AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan's sharp changes in the judiciary and security sectors, appointing Akın Gürlek to the Ministry of Justice and Mustafa Çiftçi to the Ministry of Interior.
In political circles, some of the focus is currently directed at Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek. Claims that Erdoğan wants to dismiss Şimşek and is uncomfortable with his economic policies have been circulating in the corridors recently.
Economist Uğur Gürses claimed that there is a "smear campaign" being conducted from within the ruling party against Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, whose name has been mentioned in the corridors for some time, stating, "They are now attempting to pin the bill on Şimşek, whom they called upon to bring under control the living conditions of the public—which they pushed into a deep crisis with the destruction caused by interest rate cuts starting in 2019 under the guise of the 'New Economic Model' (YEM)—and the financial market conditions that have turned into a disaster zone."
ŞAMİL TAYYAR ALSO REACTED
Most recently, AKP member Şamil Tayyar stirred the corridors by reminding everyone that Şimşek has been in office for three years, stating that the justifications put forward regarding inflation also bother him, and voicing certain criticisms.
Criticizing the government's economic management, Tayyar said, "At this point, every excuse is becoming tiresome."
Economy writer Uğur Gürses, meanwhile, drew attention to the tension behind the scenes of economic management on his social media account.
Arguing that the bill for the flawed policies implemented since 2019 is being attempted to be pinned on Mehmet Şimşek, who was called to duty to perform "damage control," Gürses noted the following:
"It is very interesting that certain circles within the government are setting out to 'eat' Minister Şimşek.
They are now attempting to pin the bill on Şimşek, whom they called upon to bring under control the living conditions of the public—which they pushed into a deep crisis with the destruction caused by interest rate cuts starting in 2019 under the guise of the 'New Economic Model' (YEM)—and the financial market conditions that have turned into a disaster zone.
If you look at what happened after March 19, when the judiciary was instrumentalized, there is no such thing as a 'Şimşek program'; there is only a constant 'hemorrhage control' program.
They must still think they haven't pressed all the buttons yet."
