EIA positive report for mine in İliç cancelled: Murat Kurum had approved it

The Erzincan Administrative Court has reached a verdict in the cancellation lawsuit filed against the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and licenses of the gold mine operated by Anagold Mining in the Çöpler area of the İliç district.

According to the report in Gazete Duvar, the court cancelled the EIA report and licenses that were approved by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum.

A lawsuit previously filed against the gold mine in İliç by Sedat Cezayirlioğlu and his lawyer İsmail Hakkı Atal had been rejected. 

The 6th Chamber of the Council of State had overturned the first-instance court's decision in 2023, ruling that a new expert examination should be conducted at the mining site.

In the decision of the Erzincan Administrative Court, it was stated: "It has been concluded that there is no compliance with the law and legislation in the 'Environmental Impact Assessment Positive' decision dated 07.10.2021, issued by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for the 'Çöpler Complex Mine 2nd Capacity Increase and Flotation Facility Project' with license numbers 847, 49729, and 20067313, which is planned to be carried out by (intervener) Anagold Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. in the Çöpler Village area."
