Eid al-Adha measures announced: Barbecue ban to continue

There are only a few days left until Eid al-Adha. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül has announced the measures to be taken throughout the holiday.

Key highlights from Governor Gül's statements are as follows:

"Swimming in areas where there are no lifeguards and where swimming is prohibited can unfortunately lead to sad consequences and drownings. In this sense, let us especially look after our children. We have taken our measures regarding this matter with our relevant institutions and organizations.

Throughout the holiday, our Coast Guard Command will be on duty along the Çatalca-Şile and Silivri-Tuzla coastal lines with a total of 473 personnel, including 20 diving teams, 35 land teams, 5 floating units, 1 mobile radar, and 1 helicopter."

REMINDER OF THE BARBECUE BAN

As in previous years, barbecuing will be prohibited during this holiday outside of designated picnic and recreation areas. Forestry Directorate teams will further increase their inspections throughout the holiday.

Governor Gül stated the following regarding the barbecue ban:

"It was prohibited to barbecue outside of picnic and recreation areas during Eid al-Adha. The inspections by the Forestry Directorate teams will increase even more during the holiday. With all the measures we have taken and the sensitivity of our citizens, Istanbul will spend this holiday in peace as well. We are working wholeheartedly with the understanding that the peace of Istanbul is the peace of Turkey. Our fight against crime and criminals continues. Our first priority is public order. Although there are occasional isolated crimes, this does not represent the general situation. What is important is taking measures to prevent these crimes. In the first 5 months, 8 types of crimes have decreased by 9 percent compared to the same period last year. Crimes against property have decreased by nearly 27 percent."
