Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu issued a statement regarding the recent judicial decisions against journalists.
In a message shared through his Presidential Candidate Office, İmamoğlu criticized the arrest of journalists Şaban Sevinç and Mustafa Balcı, as well as the decision to place Murat Ağırel and İsmail Saymaz under house arrest.
Reacting to the accusation of “publicly disseminating misleading information,” which was cited as the justification for the decisions, İmamoğlu argued that this phrase has been frequently used against journalists in recent times.
Stating that Sevinç and Balcı were arrested for wanting to “ask questions about a photograph in circulation,” İmamoğlu said, “You answer the questions and move on. What is this fear?”
İmamoğlu noted that house arrest decisions were also issued for Ağırel and Saymaz on the same grounds, and criticized the government's emphasis on the “right not to be stained.”
Those who ignore the thousands of criminal complaints we have filed regarding the slanders thrown at us for months are also shamelessly talking about the ‘right not to be stained.’
Did the right not to be stained only come to your mind when it concerns you?
No matter what you do, your filth has been spilled out.
The heist of the century, the fund robbery has been exposed. The nation sees everything. The answer is at the ballot box.
