Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma has been cancelled

The decision regarding the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma was published in the official announcements section of Istanbul University.

With the decision numbered 3 taken at the 61st meeting of our University's Board of Directors dated March 18, 2025; in accordance with the report prepared by the Investigation Commission appointed at our University within the framework of the findings in the "Research Report" dated 17.02.2025 and numbered E-68918934-663.08[2024/519-04-R] of the Higher Education Supervisory Board, which was attached to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's investigation file dated 24.02.2025 and numbered 2025/44681, it has been decided to cancel, on the grounds of "nullity" and "clear error," the lateral transfer decisions of 10 individuals whose registrations were deleted out of 38 people who made irregular lateral transfers to our University's Faculty of Business Administration English program in 1990, as well as the lateral transfer decisions and the resulting graduations and diplomas of the remaining 28 people who graduated, including the person mentioned in the Higher Education Supervisory Board's "Research Report"; and to continue the examinations and research regarding lateral transfers made in all faculties of our University and to subsequently carry out the necessary actions and procedures. The decision taken and all information and documents forming the basis of this decision will be urgently sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

"HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE A CANDIDATE IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION"

Lawyer Dr. Rezan Epözdemir evaluated the issued diploma cancellation decision.

Epözdemir stated the following:

A cancellation lawsuit will come to the agenda in the administrative judiciary. İmamoğlu will file a cancellation lawsuit within 60 days; since this process alone will not bring the diploma back, he is technically in a position where he cannot be a candidate right now.

He will request a stay of execution; if a stay of execution decision is granted, there is no problem with him being a candidate again.

If a stay of execution is not granted, Ekrem İmamoğlu will go to the regional administrative court...

According to administrative trial rules, as long as this action is not cancelled, Mr. İmamoğlu will not be able to be a candidate in a possible Presidential election.
