Releasing a message on the 102nd anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu emphasized that the treaty registered Turkey's independence and sovereignty.
In his message, İmamoğlu stated the following:
"Happy 102nd anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne, the greatest victory we won at the negotiating table.
In this historic process, conducted with the unique foresight of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a great victory was achieved before the international community thanks to the sharp intellect of İsmet İnönü at the diplomatic table.
With this treaty, our independence was legally recognized; the title deed of the Republic of Turkey was signed.
I commemorate all our heroes who fought to achieve this unique success with respect and gratitude.
Lausanne is not just a document; it is the guarantee of our sovereignty, our honorable future, and peace.
It is the responsibility of all of us to protect this great legacy."
