Ekrem İmamoğlu's statement outside the courthouse on the 'Fool Case': 'Whatever the nation deems fitting for İmamoğlu...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made evaluations at the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice regarding the case filed against him, known to the public as the "Fool Case."

'THEY ARE CALCULATING HOW TO BREAK THE WRIST THEY COULD NOT BEND FOR 3 ELECTIONS THROUGH INTRIGUE'

İmamoğlu stated the following:

This case, known to the public as the "Fool Case," is not directed at me as the elected mayor of the IMM, but is a clear coup attempt directed at the will of our noble nation. This case is not a legal case, but a political one. It is a project containing cheap political engineering, plotted in certain circles. The government, which set out 23 years ago saying we are against bans, is now calculating and planning how to break the wrist they could not bend for 3 elections through intrigue. Those who conduct politics with their full field of ministers, deputies, and bureaucrats have once again received the nation's slap at the ballot box.

'IT IS A BLACK STAIN'

Instead of sitting down and understanding where they went wrong, they have unfortunately found no other way to maintain their power than to use every instrument, including the judiciary. This case, which disregards our democratic history and the gains we have achieved at great cost, is a black stain on our political history.

Our noble nation, which has experienced the Yassıada trials, the executions of the Denizes and Mahirs, the political bans after the 80 coup, the February 28 process, and the July 15 coup attempt, and has overcome these processes by clinging to democracy, will definitely break these traps set at desks, no matter the cost.

Our nation, which has suffered greatly from coups, is aware that their rights are being sought to be taken away through a judicial coup, and our people are watching the process with their conscience and sense of justice.

It should be known that, let alone hindering our struggle for democracy, it will only strengthen us further on the path of serving our nation. The place I lean my back on this path is clear. The only power I trust is first God, and then the will of the 86 million citizens of the Republic of Turkey. I want our nation to hear that it is certain we will continue on our path with the morality required by the national will until the end.

'WHATEVER THE NATION DEEMS FITTING FOR İMAMOĞLU, İMAMOĞLU WILL BE THERE'

Respect the will of our nation, clear the way for the nation. Whatever the nation deems fitting for İmamoğlu, İmamoğlu will be there. Do not be afraid; I want all our citizens to know that the process is being followed with the highest courage, never and ever.

It is clear to whom I returned the "fool" expression used against me. That person already filed a lawsuit against me, and I filed one against them. It is also clear from the decisions of the Court of Cassation that the expression "fool" is not a crime. The expert reports that find me right are also there. I no longer want the world's most forced political ban case to occupy Turkey's agenda.
