Ekrem İmamoğlu's striking 'you must face the truth' message: Get off their backs
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed the AKP government via his social media account, summarizing the economic situation of citizens and the steps taken, and said, "get off the nation's back."
While his legal case continues, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, continues to send important messages regarding the current agenda.
İmamoğlu, whose party was issued an 'absolute nullity' decision, included the following statements in his social media post:
"You must face the truth on the eve of the holiday.
This country's holidays are now full of sorrow and despair!
While the rate of babies living in poverty was 36.8% in 2017,
we have become a country where it has climbed to 50% in 2026.
In the last 12 years, all basic supplies from diapers to baby formula have risen from 402 TL to 6680 TL. Exactly 16 times.
We are now a Turkey where the government causes 7 million of our babies to experience hunger and poverty, and even causes malnutrition while still in the womb!
However, the only concern of the palace, which makes even our unborn babies cry, is a coup against democracy and justice:
Opening and closing a massive university with a single signature within a day, appointing trustees to the main opposition party…
Get off this nation's back!"
You must face the truth on the eve of the holiday.
