Election date set for Güzelbahçe Municipality
The date for the municipal council meeting to elect an acting mayor to replace Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa Günay has been announced.
The İzmir Governor's Office has announced that the municipal council will convene in an extraordinary session on Friday, June 5, to elect an acting mayor to replace Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa Günay, who has been arrested and suspended from duty.
The following statement was included in the written announcement made by the Governor's Office:
“Güzelbahçe Mayor Mustafa GÜNAY has been suspended from duty by the approval of the Ministry of Interior dated May 27, 2026, in accordance with the 4th paragraph of Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
Our Governor's Office has decided, pursuant to Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, that the Municipal Council shall convene in an extraordinary session on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 15:00 in the Council Hall of the Güzelbahçe Municipality Service Building for the election of an Acting Mayor. Respectfully announced to the public.”
