Enforcement shock for TurkStat: We will seize the president's official vehicle!
In a 50,000 lira non-pecuniary damages lawsuit filed by the TurkStat administration following Honorary Member of the Court of Cassation Seyfettin Çilesiz's remarks, 'Damn you, where did you hide the fuel price hikes,' the court evaluated the statements as falling within the scope of 'freedom of expression.' Following the ruling, enforcement proceedings were initiated against the institution for 45,000 lira in litigation costs.
The administration of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) had applied to the judiciary with a demand for 50,000 lira in non-pecuniary damages due to the remarks by Honorary Member of the Court of Cassation Seyfettin Çilesiz, which caused a stir in the public, stating, 'Damn you, where did you hide the fuel price hikes.' Examining the file, the Ankara 13th Civil Court of First Instance ruled that the expressions in question remained within the limits of 'freedom of expression' and found TurkStat to be in the wrong.
According to the report by Sözcü, the court decided that the 45,000 lira in litigation costs should be paid by TurkStat following the dismissal of the case. Çilesiz's lawyer, Ali Erdem Gündoğan, announced that they have initiated enforcement proceedings against the institution to collect this amount.
SEIZURE ON THE AGENDA
Stating that they would resort to seizure if payment is not made, Gündoğan shared the information, 'We can seize TurkStat's assets that are not actually used in public service. Therefore, if there is no payment, we can place a lien on the president's official vehicle or office chair.'
