Engin Alan's striking remarks on Bahçeli and Öcalan: 'What Devlet Bey said...'

Following the call by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the meeting held by DEM Party members Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan at İmralı continues to remain on the agenda.

The DEM Party delegation that met with Öcalan subsequently visited Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli. The DEM Party's İmralı tour in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) will continue in the coming days.

Former Special Forces Commander Retired Lieutenant General Engin Alan made assessments regarding the new resolution process, which has become more concrete with the DEM-İmralı meeting and the subsequent visits.

"THE TERRORIST LEADER HAS NO VALUE WHATSOEVER"

Speaking to Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, Alan argued that what MHP leader Bahçeli said and the process currently underway are not the same.

"The path being taken is not the same as what Devlet Bahçeli said," Alan stated, adding, "Devlet Bey said, 'The organization will be dissolved, weapons will be laid down.' Did Devlet Bey say there would be bargaining, a return to a new resolution process, that this person would come out or that person would come in? He never said any such thing. He said, 'Dissolve the organization' and 'Have the weapons laid down.' Although, no one is going to pay any mind to Abdullah Öcalan. We already see the statements from the agent in Qandil. Let me say it: the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan currently has no value whatsoever."

Alan continued as follows:

"But the issue now is not about this person meeting or that person meeting. It seems to me that this is evolving into a new resolution process like the one experienced in 2015. A new resolution process, meetings, bargaining, and so on. But Devlet Bey did not say such a thing.

"EVEN IF ÖCALAN SAYS SO, THE PKK CANNOT LAY DOWN ARMS EVEN IF IT WANTED TO"

There is reason and logic. Would the YPG/PKK, which is under the control of the US in the northeast of the Euphrates, lay down its arms just because Abdullah Öcalan said so? Wouldn't one have to be stupid or a fool to believe this? They will not lay down their arms. They cannot even if they wanted to. Today, America is establishing outposts and bases in Al-Bab. As long as the US is in the northeast of the Euphrates, there will be no security in Syria, nor will there be for us. It won't happen."
