Engines from earthquake-damaged vehicles installed in stolen cars: 4 suspects in custody

According to the information received, the Ankara Police Department Public Security Branch determined that engines from vehicles that had become unusable after sustaining heavy damage in the earthquake were being installed in stolen, smuggled, or seized vehicles. This discovery has caused concern for both security forces and citizens.

Within the scope of the investigation, four suspects were taken into custody during an operation conducted at four separate auto spare parts businesses in the Ankara Auto Industry zone. The detained suspects are alleged to have been involved in smuggling activities and to have carried out illegal engine replacement procedures.

During the inspections of the workplaces, a total of 31 engines and 19 transmissions with unreadable or erased chassis numbers were seized. Furthermore, it was determined that these parts were of foreign origin, lacked identification, and were subject to seizure orders. It was reported that the seized parts will be examined by experts in criminal laboratories.

This situation once again highlights the necessity for stricter inspections against the misuse of vehicles following the earthquake. Police authorities have called on citizens to be vigilant and to report suspicious transactions. It is stated that the investigation into the incident will continue in depth and that more arrests may be made.
