Metin Can Yılmaz, who has been in prison for 7 years on charges of "FETÖ membership" and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, was being retried at the Ankara 16th High Criminal Court after the Court of Cassation overturned the decision on procedural grounds because he was not asked for his final statement. During the hearing on Friday, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison again, but was released with judicial control measures along with the verdict.
However, the prosecutor of the 16th High Criminal Court objected to the release decision on the same day. The 16th High Criminal Court unanimously rejected this objection, stating, "Our release decision is appropriate," and sent the objection to the 17th High Criminal Court.
The 17th High Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Metin Can Yılmaz on the grounds of "flight risk," and Yılmaz was detained at his home yesterday. Yılmaz, who attended the hearing at the 17th High Criminal Court today via SEGBİS connection, was ordered to be arrested by a majority vote, despite the dissenting opinion of the presiding judge.
