Enver Aysever sends letter from prison: Main opposition party is occupying the agenda with tabloid issues
Journalist Enver Aysever, who is being held at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, shared a letter through his lawyer Mikayil Dilbaz, accusing the CHP of occupying the public agenda with tabloid issues.
In his letter, Aysever stated, "I am extremely saddened after seeing the discussions that have emerged in recent days. The main opposition party is occupying the agenda with tabloid issues instead of addressing the unlawful trial of a journalist."
The pro-government newspaper Sabah had reported that journalist Enver Aysever, who was arrested for "inciting or insulting the public to hatred and hostility" due to comments he made during a live broadcast, had called the imprisoned IMM Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel "thieves" and refused to shake hands with either of them.
Aysever's lawyer, Mikayil Dilbaz, clarified this issue, which has been a subject of public debate.
Dilbaz had conveyed that Aysever used the phrase "I do not shake the hand of a thief" regarding İmamoğlu, and told Özel, "Mr. Chairman, if you occupy the party's sole agenda with this issue to defend thieves, I fear we will be trading places." As the debate between Aysever and Özel continues, a new statement has come from Aysever.
In a statement made through his lawyer under the heading "mandatory statement to the public," Enver Aysever used the following expressions:
"I have been held unjustly and unlawfully in the Marmara Prison in Silivri for some time. Under these conditions, it is not possible for me to follow social media and the press properly. I am extremely saddened after seeing the discussions that have emerged in recent days. The main opposition party is occupying the agenda with tabloid issues instead of addressing the unlawful trial of a journalist. This is my final statement. I will not make any further statements. The statements I made previously through my lawyer are in accordance with my will. I will make other necessary statements in free days."
