Erdal Beşikçioğlu reacts sharply to the removal of actors from TV series: 'An artist does not stay silent, art cannot be silenced'

Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, in a statement made via his social media account X, reacted to TRT's removal of TV actors who supported boycott calls from their series.

Beşikçioğlu stated the following in his post:

"Whose fear is this? I am an artist. Throughout my life, I have breathed through words and lines echoing on stage. The magic of art lies in setting the human soul free. But today, they are trying to stifle this magic. Today in this country, an artist is being fired for expressing their thoughts. They are being judged not by their art, but by their views. And the most painful part is that this is being done by an institution that stands on the public's taxes and should be a common value for everyone. TRT...

Yes, a state channel that exists through all of our taxes and should be at an equal distance to all of us is declaring some people 'acceptable' and others 'dangerous.' For years, they told us 'art is free.' They said, 'The duty of an artist is to be the conscience of society.' But whenever our conscience spoke, whenever we voiced the truth, doors were slammed in our faces. What kind of order is this? An artist does not stay silent. Art cannot be silenced. Because art resonates not only when it is applauded, but also when it is banned. If you think you can silence an artist with censorship, open the history books and look. Every artist who was attempted to be intimidated by pressure, threats, and bans has become immortalized through their works. And we are here. We are not leaving. We are not staying silent. We are not afraid. This order must change. And it will change."
