Tense moments at the Scholz-Erdoğan press conference! Erdoğan rebukes German journalist: Ask questions that are conscientious and humane

President Erdoğan, who paid a visit to Germany, met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and held a joint press conference.

During the joint press conference, while making statements regarding Israel's attacks in Gaza, Erdoğan reacted to a dpa reporter who asked a question about Hamas after relaying criticisms regarding Turkey's foreign policy.

Erdoğan became angry at the dpa reporter's question: “Your statements have caused discomfort not only in Germany but also among NATO countries. Do you accept Israel's right to exist? You said that Israel is a fascist country; what are your justifications? And why do you call Israel's attack on Hamas a genocide? How can you define an organization that massacred hundreds of people in Israel, an organization recognized as a terrorist organization by NATO allies, as a liberation organization? Are you endangering Turkish-German relations? Will Germany accept Turkey's Eurofighter request?"

Erdoğan responded to the journalist who asked the question as follows:

- "We are one of the leading countries in NATO, ranking in the top 5. Turkey is not an ordinary country in NATO. Right now, whatever the thoughts or opinions within NATO may be... Who is everyone siding with between Russia and Ukraine? Ukraine. As Turkey, we are in contact with both countries. We do not make any distinction between them. We were the ones who transported 33 million tons of grain to all of Europe and Africa through the grain corridor.

- Look, I am not saying hundreds to you... Israel has killed thousands of Palestinians right now. It has destroyed hospitals. It is hitting places of worship, it is hitting churches. As a Christian, are you not disturbed by the hitting of these churches? Why do you not take a stance against these? For us, at this point, there should be no distinction in the region between Jewish, Christian, or Muslim... If anyone has fought against antisemitism, I am the leader who first waged this fight. Look, Germany is currently talking about how much financial support it has given to Israel. As a member of the press, do not threaten us with this. Ask questions that are conscientious and humane so that we may provide answers accordingly. Whether Germany provides the Eurofighter or not, is Germany the only country in the world that produces fighter jets? Do not threaten us with this. Thank you."
