Erdoğan had said 'It will be above inflation'! Cabinet meets today: Minimum wage is on the table

While millions of workers, civil servants, and retirees are eagerly awaiting the 2025 salary hikes, all eyes have turned to the Cabinet Meeting.

The Cabinet will meet at the Palace under the chairmanship of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after a 15-day break. The Cabinet meeting will address developments in domestic and foreign policy, the latest situation in the economy, inflation and exorbitant prices, the fight against terrorism, and the risk of global and regional war.

MINIMUM WAGE HIKE ON THE TABLE

According to a report in the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, the hikes to be made for the minimum wage, as well as retiree and civil servant salaries in the new year, will be discussed at the meeting.

Erdoğan, in his statement regarding the minimum wage, civil servant, and retiree salaries, had said: "We will not let our retirees, our civil servants, our minimum wage earners, or any segment of society be crushed by inflation. We will treat our employees in a framework that is above inflation and will protect their purchasing power." 

44 PERCENT HIKE RATE HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO THE AGENDA

Following these words by Erdoğan, some minimum wage hike estimates doubled, and it was claimed that a 44 percent hike was on the table.

RISK OF WORLD WAR III WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSED

The risk of the Russia-Ukraine war leading to World War III and the steps to be taken are among the priority agenda items.

The meeting will also discuss the trustees appointed to municipalities linked to terrorism and issues related to the fight against terrorism.

In addition, a roadmap will be drawn up for relations to be established with President-elect Donald Trump, who is expected to take office in January.

The normalization process with the Syrian administration is also expected to be brought to the agenda at the meeting.
