Erdoğan had said 'shake up the municipalities': Millions of liras in donations from the Palace to an AKP municipality!
While investigations and operations against opposition-run municipalities continue, it has emerged that the Presidency made a 30 million TL donation to the AKP-run Sincan Municipality.
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s instruction to 'shake up the municipalities' has led to economic pressure on opposition-run municipalities, while it has been alleged that millions of liras in donations were made from the Palace to the AKP-run Sincan Municipality.
According to a report by İsmail Arı from Birgün, a “Donation” proposal was put to a vote during the February session of the Sincan Municipal Council. The proposal stated that “the Presidency’s Strategy and Budget Directorate made a conditional donation to the municipality for the purpose of supporting ongoing investment projects and social aid.”
The proposal explained that the Presidency sent 30 million TL to the municipality’s bank accounts on December 31, 2024, and that a vote in the Municipal Council was required to accept the conditional donation in accordance with Article 18 of the Municipal Law No. 5393. In the vote held on February 3, the Presidency’s 30 million TL conditional donation was accepted unanimously.
