Erdoğan intervenes in Minister Bak's World Cup comment: 'Don't say we might pull off a surprise!'
When asked about the A National Football Team's chances in the World Cup during a May 19 program, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak said, "we might pull off a surprise." President Erdoğan intervened, stating, "You should say we will win..."
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted young people from 81 provinces and national athletes at an event held at the Presidential Nation's Library in Ankara for the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. A dialogue regarding the World Cup during the program drew attention.
WORLD CUP QUESTION BECOMES A TOPIC
During the event, a student took the floor and asked for an assessment regarding the potential performance of the A National Football Team in the World Cup, which they will participate in after 24 years. Upon this, Erdoğan gave the floor to Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak.
Touching upon the strength of the opposing teams, Minister Bak said, "Spain is in good shape, there is Argentina, there is France, but we might pull off a surprise."
INSTANT CORRECTION FROM ERDOĞAN
Intervening in Minister Bak's words "we might pull off a surprise," Erdoğan stated that a more assertive approach should be taken.
Following Erdoğan's words "Don't say we might pull off a surprise!", Minister Bak changed his phrasing, saying, "I mean, we will succeed..." However, Erdoğan replied this time with, "You should say we will win..."
"WE WILL WIN, SIR"
Following Erdoğan's remark, Minister Osman Aşkın Bak concluded his speech by saying, "We will win, sir, understood."
