War of words on the Erdoğan-Netanyahu line: Tensions rise

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks regarding Israel's activities in the region, delivered during the AK Party's weekly group meeting, have sparked a new debate between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Following Erdoğan's statements targeting Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Netanyahu responded to President Erdoğan by making a post on the social media platform X.

HARSH MESSAGES FROM ERDOĞAN TO ISRAEL AND NETANYAHU

Speaking at the group meeting, President Erdoğan made assessments regarding Israel's military activities in the region.

Erdoğan stated, "Israel has attacked Iran at the same time; that was not enough, it has begun to occupy Lebanon. Israel refuses to withdraw from Lebanon and continues its bloody operations. The number of those massacred in Lebanon has reached 3,700. Israel has simultaneously engaged in a treacherous effort to destabilize African countries and the Mediterranean. The attacks by Netanyahu and his network of murderers against Syria and Lebanon have now reached a point that threatens Turkey as well. Syria and Lebanon are two independent states, but these two states are also two states located within Turkey's geography of affection and brotherhood."

In the continuation of his speech, President Erdoğan also made assessments regarding developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.

Erdoğan said, "We know that they want to ignite a fire of sedition on the island of Cyprus, and we are following the developments very closely. Some small structures whose ambitions far exceed their stature have boarded Israel's boat of sedition and have undertaken the subcontracting of Zionism. They are supposedly chasing after some vain dreams in the Eastern Mediterranean. I say this very clearly; let no one chase after adventures, let no one tag along behind the Zionist massacre network. If the rights and laws of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots are encroached upon in the Eastern Mediterranean, our response will be very clear and very harsh."

RESPONSE FROM NETANYAHU VIA X

Following President Erdoğan's statements, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a post on the social media platform X.

In his post, Netanyahu stated, "The antisemitic dictator Erdoğan; as someone who commits genocide against the Kurds, supports the Hamas terrorist organization, oppresses his own people, and imprisons his political rivals, is the last person who can lecture the State of Israel on morality."

In the continuation of his statement, Netanyahu assessed, "The State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces, the most moral army in the world, will continue to act decisively against Iran and its proxy forces that threaten the Middle East and the entire world."

REACTION TO NETANYAHU FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTORATE

Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun also responded to Netanyahu's statements with a post on his social media account.

Reacting to Netanyahu's expressions targeting President Erdoğan, Altun said, "His insolent targeting of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is one of the greatest inconsistencies in history."

"HE IS SLANDERING TURKEY, WHICH IS THE CONSCIENCE OF HUMANITY"

Fahrettin Altun stated the following in his announcement:

"It is pure insolence for an administration and a leader with a record full of shame and immorality—who has massacred tens of thousands of civilians for decades in Gaza and the West Bank, condemned children to starvation, razed cities to the ground, and disregarded international law—to attempt to lecture Turkey on morality."

Altun also stated, "For those who are being tried at the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide in Gaza to try to slander Turkey, which is the conscience of humanity, and to insolently target our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is the voice of the oppressed, is one of the greatest inconsistencies in history."

"TURKEY WILL CONTINUE TO DEFEND THE TRUTH"

Concluding his statement with assessments regarding Turkey's stance, Altun said, "Slander and propaganda cannot change the facts. The slanders of a mentality that has been condemned in the conscience of humanity can change neither Turkey's stance nor the truth. Under the leadership of our President, Turkey will continue to be the voice of the oppressed, to defend the truth, and to stand against the oppressor."
