An explosion occurred at a factory operated by ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi AŞ in the central Karesi district of Balıkesir.

Following the explosion, in which 12 people lost their lives and 5 were injured, the partners of ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi AŞ and who owns the company became a subject of curiosity.

According to information in the Turkish Trade Registry Gazette, the ZSR Patlayıcı Sanayi Anonim Şirketi, where the explosion occurred, is owned by Zirve Holding and Senta Madencilik companies.

As reported by Birgün, the owner of Zirve Holding, Ömer Faruk Kalyoncu, is the son of Hasan Kalyoncu, the founder of the Kalyon Group. The pro-government newspaper Sabah, ATV, and A Haber also belong to the Kalyon family.

At Ömer Faruk Kalyoncu's wedding ceremony in Istanbul, the then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the then-Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Bülent Arınç served as wedding witnesses. 11 ministers, including the then-Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gül, attended the wedding ceremony.

According to information on the website of Kalyon, which has made a fortune through public tenders, the company, which made a name for itself by purchasing Sabah and ATV, has also undertaken numerous projects such as the Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, the Taksim Pedestrianization Project, the Bakırköy Courthouse, the Mecidiyeköy Metrobus Tender, the Istanbul 3rd Airport Project, the Başakşehir Stadium, the Çanakkale-Ayvacık Road, and the TRNC Water Supply Project.
