Erdoğan will be very angry at these words from Halil Konakcı! He said, 'It is not religiously permissible'
Pro-government imam Halil Konakcı, known for his hostility toward Atatürk and the Republic, has criticized the government's 500,000 social housing project. Konakcı's remarks, "The number of installments is clear, but how much I will pay is not. This is not religiously permissible," have drawn attention.
The application process for TOKİ's 500,000 social housing project, which the government has dubbed the 'housing project of the century,' is ongoing.
Following the intense interest from low-income groups in the social housing project, which AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has touted as a solution to the housing problem, imam Halil Konakcı, who is affiliated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs, has made statements that are likely to anger Erdoğan.
"NOT RELIGIOUSLY PERMISSIBLE"
In his criticism of the new TOKİ social housing initiative, Konakcı interpreted the project as "not in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence." Pointing out that the installment amounts and the total cost are not clear, Konakcı also stated that he finds the fact that the property title is not fully transferred to be problematic. He noted that while he had considered applying, he definitely does not recommend the project under these conditions.
Stating that he does not own a home and lives in a 50-60 square meter staff apartment, Konakcı said, "I live in a 50-60 square meter staff apartment... I said let's apply too, but when I examined the contract, I saw problems from a religious perspective."
Emphasizing that the biggest issue is the uncertain payment plan, Konakcı used the expressions, "The number of installments is clear, but how much I will pay is not. This is not religiously permissible."
