Erdoğan's first statement on the betting scandal on the agenda: 'Citizens are happy'
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "While all these things are happening on football pitches, the state cannot just sit idly by and watch; it must do what is necessary. That is what has been done now."
AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan and Merz answered questions at a joint press conference.
Erdoğan made his first assessment regarding the betting allegations involving referees that have recently occupied the agenda during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The TFF had referred 152 referees to the PFDK on the grounds that they had engaged in betting.
"CITIZENS ARE HAPPY"
Speaking on the subject, AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan said, "Recently, the referee incident has emerged.
In this incident as well, what is happening on the football pitches, and while all these things are happening, the state cannot just sit idly by and watch; it must do what is necessary.
That is what has been done now. When citizens see this development in the stands, they are now very happy. They have started to say, 'What is going on, what is going on.'"
