Erdoğan's reaction to the US over the ceasefire: Is this what justice looks like?
Speaking at the World Human Rights Day 'Face of Humanity' program, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reacted to the US for vetoing the draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza at the United Nations Security Council. Addressing the dog attack in Ankara, Erdoğan said, "We will definitely resolve this issue within the framework of our faith and culture."
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the World Human Rights Day 'Face of Humanity' program.
Here are the highlights from Erdoğan's remarks:
"The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted 75 years ago with truly great hopes. Despite three-quarters of a century passing, this text maintains its status as a critical document in terms of humanity's achievements. The declaration, adopted with the ideal of a more human-centered world, has continued to remind the international community of its responsibilities for 75 years.
Although it has not been able to end human rights violations, we see the declaration as one of the cornerstones of humanity's struggle for a dignified life. We believe that the declaration has made significant contributions to the formation of global sensitivity regarding the protection and development of human rights.
"MUSLIMS CONSTITUTE THE MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO ARE VICTIMIZED"
Despite this, it is a fact that we mark December 10, World Human Rights Day, while human rights are being trampled upon in many parts of the world. Islamophobia and xenophobia, which wrap around Western society like a poisonous ivy, are at the forefront of threats to human rights. The segment most victimized by xenophobic, racist, discriminatory, and fascist practices is undoubtedly Muslims, who make up the majority of immigrants.
"WE CAN NEVER FORGET FLOYD'S TRAGEDY"
We can never forget the tragedy of George Floyd, who said, 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe.' We have encountered similar events later on. We just watched it on the screen... Baby Aylan. We watched how baby Aylan washed ashore with the waves. The death of baby Aylan did not bring the West to its senses. Baby Aylan walked into eternity as seen in the arms of our non-commissioned officer. Most recently, three young people wearing Palestinian keffiyehs were subjected to an armed attack in the middle of the street in the US.
"NEARLY 500 ATTACKS HAVE TAKEN PLACE"
Although statistics are only the tip of the iceberg, they confirm this painful truth. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 500 attacks have been carried out in which the Holy Quran was burned in front of the representations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member countries in Europe, mostly our embassies. Almost all of these vile acts against our holy book were organized with the permission of governments and under police protection. For the first time yesterday, they introduced criminal sanctions in Denmark due to attacks on holy books.
As I have stated in recent days, 4 of the 5 values upon which the West has built its entire civilization are stolen elements that have nothing to do with them. The West, whose faith originates from Jerusalem, philosophy from the Aegean and Western Anatolia, law from the Mediterranean and Rome, and science from Andalusia and the Eastern world, only truly possesses the quality of barbarism.
In recent times, we have begun to see examples of the West's quality of barbarism more frequently through the incidents it has directly committed. Crimes against humanity have the characteristic of being judged in the collective conscience and their perpetrators being held accountable before history. We see the increasingly violent examples of barbarism and the innocent cries rising to the heavens as signs that we are approaching a turning point.
REACTION TO THE US: IS THIS WHAT JUSTICE LOOKS LIKE?
The Israeli administration, which receives unlimited support from Western countries, is committing massacres in Gaza that will make humanity blush.
The 5 permanent members and non-permanent members at the UN Security Council... But unfortunately, the aforementioned ceasefire was rejected solely due to the US's veto. Alone. Is this what justice looks like? Is this what a fair world looks like? But what do we say? Actually, a fair world is possible. But not with America.
It is involved with all its money and all its weapons and ammunition. Oh America... How will you account for this? We say to those who stand by Israel and against the Aylan babies; we are also against you.
The greatest achievement of the renowned media outlets, from the BBC to CNN, which set up camps at the scenes and broadcast live for hours during the Gezi events in our country and the occupation of Ukraine, consists only of hiding the perpetrators and keeping the oppression out of sight.
"UNSC HAS TURNED INTO A COUNCIL FOR PROTECTING ISRAEL"
Unfortunately, more than 70 members of the press have walked into eternity in Gaza. We no longer have any hope or expectation from the UN Security Council. The Security Council, whose duty is to protect global peace and stability, has turned into a council for protecting and shielding Israel since October 7.
"REFORMING THE UN IS ESSENTIAL"
I just mentioned the vote held last night; a ceasefire decision could not be reached due to the US veto. Despite 13 countries, including permanent members, voting 'yes' to the draft, unfortunately, the result did not change. The fact that the world is bigger than 5 has been seen once again. It is essential that the UN and the UN Security Council be reformed! It is not possible for humanity to get anywhere with this UN and UN Security Council.
"GAZA BUTCHERS MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE"
After Gaza, nothing can continue as it was before. The oppression in the occupied Palestinian territories must be accounted for before the law, along with the conscience of humanity. The butchers of Gaza must account for their actions in international courts.
"WE INCREASED PENALTIES FOR THE CRIME OF TORTURE, REMOVED THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS"
We have carried out numerous studies for the right to a fair trial. To this end, we have prepared and implemented judicial reform legislative packages, human rights action plans, and judicial reform strategy documents. By implementing a zero-tolerance policy for torture, we increased the penalties for this crime and removed the statute of limitations.
We facilitated the acquisition of property by community foundations belonging to different religious, sectarian, and faith groups. We paved the way for learning languages and dialects other than Turkish, which is our official language. We allowed political propaganda, radio, and television broadcasts in these languages. Was Kurdish banned? It was banned. We paved the way for it. Can my Kurdish citizens also conduct all kinds of political propaganda in Kurdish? They can. We paved the way for it.
Hate crime entered our penal legislation for the first time during our term. We have made many important regulations regarding the rights of our Alevi and Bektashi brothers and our Roma citizens.
DOG ATTACK IN ANKARA
We are aware of the increasing complaints. The tragic incident that took place in Ankara, in which one of our children was seriously injured, has deeply saddened us all. Hopefully, we will definitely resolve this issue within the framework of our faith, our culture, and the principles preached to us by our civilization of compassion."
