Erdoğan's statement on the Israel-Hamas war: A Palestinian state cannot be postponed
President Erdoğan stated regarding the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, "There is no benefit in adding fuel to the fire. A Palestinian state cannot be postponed. The Palestinian issue must be resolved according to international law. There are no losers in a just peace. Turkey will do its best to de-escalate the tension."
As the attack launched by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades from the blockaded Gaza Strip into Israel continues with mutual clashes on its second day, a second statement has come from AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan regarding the matter.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Mor Efrem Syriac Orthodox Church in Istanbul, Erdoğan noted the following:
''Jerusalem, which has been a place of peace for centuries, has become a symbol of usurpation and destruction. Today, the Palestinian issue lies at the root of the problems in our region. As long as this issue is not resolved, the region will remain longing for peace. Preserving the two-state solution is important. A Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem, based on the 1967 borders, is an unavoidable necessity. We do not shy away from speaking the truth and the reality. Those who turn a blind eye to hate crimes are unfortunately dynamiting the will of different cultures to live together in peace. There is no benefit in adding fuel to the fire. A Palestinian state cannot be postponed. The Palestinian issue must be resolved according to international law. There are no losers in a just peace. Turkey will do its best to de-escalate the tension.''
