Erdoğan's teacher passes away in Switzerland
Ergün Sönmez, a teacher from Diyarbakır who taught AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the 1960s, has passed away in Switzerland. Sönmez's funeral was held in his hometown of Ergani.
Ergün Sönmez, a native of Diyarbakır who also taught AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has passed away in Switzerland, where he had been living for many years. Sönmez's remains were brought to his hometown of Ergani, a district in Diyarbakır.

The funeral prayer was attended by AKP Ergani District Chairman Aziz Yılmaz and his relatives. Following the funeral prayer, Sönmez was laid to rest in the family cemetery.

During his reserve officer service in the 1960s, Ergün Sönmez worked as a teacher at Kasımpaşa Piyalepaşa Primary School, where he taught President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his 4th and 5th-grade years.
