Ertuğrul Özkök gives testimony in 'insulting the President' investigation
Journalist Ertuğrul Özkök gave testimony at the Istanbul Courthouse as part of an investigation launched due to his remarks during a broadcast. Özkök made a statement following his testimony.
An ex officio investigation was launched against journalist Ertuğrul Özkök for the crime of "insulting the President," citing remarks he made during a program he attended.
In a written statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, "An ex officio investigation has been launched by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Ertuğrul Özkök for the crime of insulting the President due to his statements in a program he attended" it was stated.
Özkök, who came to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan to give his testimony as part of the investigation, left the courthouse after the prosecution procedures were completed.
In a statement he made upon leaving, Özkök said, "The prosecutor took our statement. We said what we had to say; as I have stated before, insulting the President is something that would never even cross my mind. We gave our statement and left. From here on, it is up to the prosecutor's assessment." he remarked.
No judicial control measures were applied to Özkök.
His lawyer, Timur Şen, responded to a question on the matter by saying, "There are no judicial control measures. We are talking about Ertuğrul Özkök. We are talking about an associate professor of sociology. The language he uses and the analogies he makes should be taken as social phenomena, academically." he replied.
