A 108-year prison sentence has been requested for 19-year-old Arda K., who injured 5 people with a knife while wearing a helmet and a ski mask in Eskişehir, on charges of 'attempted premeditated murder' and 'creating fear among the public.'
The investigation has been completed regarding the incident on August 12, 2024, in which 19-year-old Arda K., who was acting strangely while wearing a helmet on his head, an axe at his waist, a mask on his face, and a tactical vest, entered a tea garden in Şehit Rüstem Demirbaş Park and stabbed 5 people.
108-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE REQUESTED
In the 37-page indictment accepted by the Eskişehir 6th High Criminal Court, it was requested that the detained defendant Arda K., who was 18 years old at the time of the incident, be sentenced to up to 100 years for "attempted premeditated murder" and up to 8 years for the crime of "threatening to create fear and panic among the public."
'I DID IT BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE PEOPLE'
In his statement included in the indictment, Arda K. claimed that he had been talking to an Eastern European person on the internet and continued as follows:
"I drew the places where I could carry out the act and sent them to this person. I bought an axe, a knife, a helmet, a mask, protective goggles, a tactical vest, gloves, trousers, and a belt online. I drew the 'SS' emblem belonging to my ideology, a shape meaning 'not equal' by drawing a line over an equals sign, the letters KKK (Ku Klux Klan), and a swastika on my small camping knife with a white industrial pen. I had my last conversation with this person. We finalized that I would carry out the act. I reset my mobile phone and computer and left the house. I did not carry out this act for religious purposes; I did it only because I do not like people and because it would make a splash."

The indictment stated that the Cyber Crimes Investigation Bureau teams could not access the relevant website and that the user the defendant was in contact with could not be identified.
HE RESEARCHED HOW TO MAKE A BOMB AT HOME ON THE INTERNET!
According to the report prepared by the Cyber Crimes Investigation Bureau officers, findings that Arda K. had searched for things such as "how many years is the penalty for murder" and "making a bomb in your mother's kitchen" on his internet browser, as well as searches about various events and people, were included in the indictment.
HE IS CRIMINALLY RESPONSIBLE
In his statement, Arda K. explained that he had applied to a hospital's psychiatry department 7-8 months before the day of the attack to get rid of depression, but that he stopped taking the medication the doctor gave him after one day because it made him feel bad; he noted that he had no connection with any terrorist organization and that he felt regret.
According to the report prepared by the health institution to which Arda K. was referred, it was stated that he had full capacity to direct his behavior regarding the act he committed and that he was fully criminally responsible.
'NOT A TERRORIST CRIME'
In the indictment, it was stated that the defendant's act could not be classified as a terrorist crime. The indictment stated the following:

"It is understood from all the evidence obtained as a result of the investigation that Arda K. decided to carry out a similar act by being influenced by other individuals he met on social media platforms and gaming sites who adopted the National Socialist (Nazism) view, and by other acts carried out worldwide by individuals who adopt this view; that in this direction, he obtained a ski mask, a tactical vest similar to military camouflage steel vests with a Nazi black sun picture on it, and cutting tools; that as he confessed in his statement, he went to the scene before the incident to determine where he would wear the clothes and carry out the act, and the time of the act; that he prepared a manifesto regarding the act he would commit and obtained equipment to broadcast live; and that after planning and premeditating the act in every aspect, he committed the crime of 'attempted premeditated murder' against each victim separately by stabbing them with random blows with the intent to kill with the knife in his hand, as he also confessed in his defense; and that he committed the crime of 'threatening to create fear and panic among the public with a weapon' by attacking indiscriminately along a distance of approximately 200 meters with multiple knives, an axe, and pepper spray, thereby creating fear, anxiety, and panic among other people present at the scene."
It was requested that the defendant Arda K. be sentenced to 20 years for each of the 5 victims for the crime of "attempted premeditated murder" and up to 8 years for the crime of "threatening to create fear and panic among the public."
