'Even if the President likes him...' Will Gendarmerie General Commander General Arif Çetin be retired?

Journalist İsmail Saymaz shared information he received regarding claims that Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin will be retired during a program he appeared on at Halk TV.

'WHAT WAS EXPECTED DID NOT HAPPEN'

Saymaz stated that a decree regarding promotions and appointments in the Gendarmerie was expected to be issued last night, saying, "What was expected did not happen; it is expected to be published today or tomorrow. The most surprising development in this decree could be the retirement of Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin."

'THERE IS A DESIRE TO CONTINUE HIS DUTY'

Saymaz explained that Çetin wants to continue his duty, but the Ministry of Interior does not want to grant an exception regarding the age limit as follows:

"I can say that the negotiations have not yet been completed. The general consensus is that Arif Çetin will be retired; it is stated that there is a 65-year age limit.

Due to the age limit, it is stated that even though the President likes General Arif Çetin, he may retire him.

But it is said that Arif Çetin has defenses for continuing his duty and has an understanding toward maintaining his position.

However, the general acceptance within the Ministry of Interior is that no exception will be applied.

Unless there is a last-minute change, Arif Çetin is expected to be retired."
