Expatriate's safe cracked by retired banker!

R.Ö., who lives in Belgium, came to the Bolvadin District Police Department with his lawyer on October 11 and reported that gold and jewelry worth 20 million liras, which he kept in a bank's safe deposit box, had been stolen.

S.F.K., who also had a safe deposit box at the same bank, came to the police on October 24 and filed a complaint stating that gold and jewelry worth 14 million liras had been stolen in the same manner.

Teams from the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch launched a meticulous investigation by obtaining camera footage from the bank following the statements of R.Ö. and S.F.K.

SAFE ROBBERY BY RETIRED BANKER

As a result of the investigation, KOM teams determined that M.A.K. (46), who retired in June and was responsible for the bank's safe deposit boxes, had committed "qualified theft" regarding the gold and jewelry worth 14 million liras belonging to client S.F.K.

The teams detained the suspect M.A.K. and bank employees Ş.B. (49) and V.E.D. (29), and took the statement of the locksmith.

In his statement to the police, M.A.K. claimed that he had his own safe deposit box at the bank, that he called a locksmith to open it on August 24 on the grounds that the lock was faulty, and that he did not steal the gold and jewelry from client S.F.K.'s safe deposit box.

Following their procedures at the police station, the suspects M.A.K., Ş.B., and V.E.D. were referred to the courthouse.

ARRESTED

Of the suspects, M.A.K. was arrested for "qualified theft," while Ş.B. and V.E.D. were released under judicial control conditions.

Furthermore, police teams are continuing their investigation into the theft of gold and jewelry worth 20 million liras from R.Ö.'s safe deposit box at the same bank.
