Following the explosion, which was reported to have occurred in a gasoline tank, footage taken in the area showed smoke covering the sky.

In a statement made by TÜPRAŞ, it was announced that the flare-up that occurred in the tank farm at the İzmit refinery was brought under control by the teams in a short time and that no one was affected by the incident.

In the statement made by TÜPRAŞ, it was said, "A flare-up occurred in the tank farm at our İzmit refinery around 21.30 this evening and was quickly brought under control by our technical safety teams. There are no colleagues affected. Our operations are continuing as normal."
