Extraordinary security measures in Beyoğlu

The Beyoğlu District Governorate has closed off Taksim Square, Gezi Park, and the section of Istiklal Avenue leading up to Galatasaray Square with barriers. As of the morning of July 1, all protests and gatherings in the area have been banned. If deemed necessary, pedestrian and vehicle traffic may be halted throughout the entire Beyoğlu district.

Extraordinary security measures in Beyoğlu

Following an attack by certain groups on the Leman magazine building last night, the Beyoğlu District Governorate announced this morning that Taksim Square, Gezi Park, and Galatasaray Square have been closed.

The statement included the following remarks:

"Considering that the intended gatherings in question could lead to actions that might disrupt public order and social peace, pursuant to Article 17 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and Article 32/ç of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442; our District Governorate has BANNED all activities such as meetings, demonstrations, press statements, distribution of leaflets, and sit-in protests in all open areas under our jurisdiction for a period of 24 hours, starting from 00:01 on 01.07.2025.

Within the scope of the measures to be taken;

- The closure of the Republic Monument in Taksim Square with barriers

The closure of Taksim Square, Gezi Park, and Istiklal Avenue up to Galatasaray Square, including connecting streets, to vehicle and pedestrian traffic by means of barriers, and allowing controlled passage if necessary,

Taking into account potential social incidents that may occur throughout our district on the same day, it has been decided to close pedestrian and vehicle traffic at different points within the district boundaries if deemed necessary."
