Facing aggravated life imprisonment: He killed his pregnant wife, now released!
In the Buldan district of Denizli, a husband who was arrested for the second time on charges of murdering his wife, Hatice Çaltı, a mother of two who was pregnant with twins, and who was facing a trial with a demand for 'aggravated life imprisonment,' has been released.
In an incident that occurred on May 11, 2022, in the Yeni neighborhood of Buldan, relatives of Hatice Çaltı (43), a mother of two who was 5 months pregnant with twins, became concerned when they could not reach her and requested assistance.
Upon receiving the report, teams arrived at the address and found the woman motionless in the bathtub. It was determined that Hatice Çaltı, who had a head injury, had passed away. Following the public prosecutor's examination, Çaltı's body was taken to the morgue of Buldan Chest Diseases Hospital for an autopsy.
RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL!
The autopsy revealed bruises and fingerprints on Hatice Çaltı's throat, and scratches on her arms resulting from a struggle. Additionally, skin tissues were found under Hatice Çaltı's fingernails, and the samples taken were sent for forensic examination. Once the preliminary autopsy confirmed the possibility that the woman had been murdered, her husband R. Çaltı (46) was detained as a suspect. R. Çaltı, who gave constantly contradictory statements and had fingernail marks on his arms, was released under judicial control by the Duty Magistrate's Court.

PROSECUTOR APPEALED
Upon the objection of the Buldan Public Prosecutor to the decision, the objection was accepted at the hearing held the same night at the Denizli 1st High Criminal Court, and an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect. R. Çaltı, who was detained again hours after being released under judicial control, was referred to the Buldan Courthouse. The husband, who attended the hearing at the Denizli 1st High Criminal Court—which accepted the objection to the judicial control decision—via SEGBİS for security reasons, was arrested and sent to prison based on the information and evidence in the file.
DEMAND FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT
It was alleged that R. Çaltı, who was arrested after being detained for the second time, tried to make his wife's death look like a robbery and left the faucet in the bathroom running. Within the framework of the ongoing investigation, an indictment was prepared against R. Çaltı with a demand for aggravated life imprisonment. The indictment noted that the suspect's statements contradicted security camera footage and that it was determined by evidence that he had killed his wife in the bathroom. It was pointed out that the suspect, who claimed he learned of the incident while working in the field, had wet clothes, and security cameras showed him walking around the house before entering.
HE CLAIMED HE WAS INNOCENT
In the hearing held last September at the Denizli 1st High Criminal Court, R. Çaltı was asked for his defense and denied the accusations against him. R. Çaltı, who claimed that he received the news of his wife's death from his relatives while working in the field and that he was innocent, requested his acquittal from the court panel.
The court panel adjourned the hearing to a later date for the determination of whether the defendant had any enemies, the examination of his mobile phone, and the analysis of digital materials to identify the calls the defendant made to his wife and her relatives during the period the murder took place.
Husband R. Çaltı, who was being tried with a demand for 'aggravated life imprisonment' on charges of murdering his wife Hatice Çaltı, a mother of two who was pregnant with twins, was released after the skin tissues found under the deceased woman's fingernails did not match his own. It was learned that R. Çaltı, who returned to his neighborhood, told those around him that his innocence had been proven and that he had been acquitted.
