Factory fire in Gaziantep: Smoke covers the sky

A fire broke out for an unknown reason at a carpet factory in the Gaziantep 2nd Organized Industrial Zone.

Upon notification, fire and police teams were dispatched to the area.

The teams are continuing their efforts to bring the fire under control.

The fire is being responded to with 200 firefighting personnel and 72 vehicles.

District municipalities and Regional Directorate of Forestry teams are also supporting the extinguishing efforts.

"THE PERIMETER OF THE FIRE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY SURROUNDED AND BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL"

Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber told reporters after his inspections at the scene that the teams were responding to the fire with all their might.

Stating that the fire broke out around 04:10 in the morning, Çeber noted that as of now, the flames are being fought with 72 vehicles and 206 personnel.

Expressing that their only consolation is that there were no deaths or injuries in the incident, Çeber stated the following:

"The perimeter of the fire has been completely surrounded and brought under control. The biggest risk was the wind that was effective at midnight. The wind had continued with decreasing intensity until this hour. This was a major risk for us. Surrounding it and bringing it under control was important in terms of preventing the fire from spreading to other factories. Thank God we achieved this. We can say that 'this part of the factory has now become completely unusable.' You will ask for the cause of the fire, but we will begin our work following the extinguishing process. We cannot say anything right now, but we have some estimates. Our greatest consolation is that there was no loss of life and no injuries occurred."

Stating that the factory owner and employees displayed a resilient stance, Çeber conveyed his best wishes to everyone.
