Factory fire in Tuzla extinguished after 6 hours

A fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason at a factory producing automotive spare parts in the Istanbul Leather Organized Industrial Zone.

Numerous firefighting teams were dispatched to the area due to the fire, which was reported to be affecting the factory, which is built on a large site.

The fire, during which explosions occurred from time to time, also spread to some adjacent factories and a wooded area due to the effect of the wind.

The fire, which was tackled by firefighting teams dispatched from Istanbul with 56 vehicles and 167 personnel, as well as teams from Kocaeli, was extinguished after a 6-hour struggle.

While there were no deaths or injuries in the fire, extensive material damage occurred at the factory, which is located on a 30-decare plot.

STATEMENT FROM THE ISTANBUL GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

In a statement regarding the matter, the Istanbul Governor's Office stated that a fire had broken out in the factory zone located on Deri Sanayi Yolu Street in the Aydınlı neighborhood of Tuzla, noting, "Numerous firefighting and AFAD Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threat teams have been dispatched to the area. Firefighting teams are intervening in the fire. On the other hand, necessary measures are being taken to prevent the fire from spreading to the forest area. According to initial findings, there are no deaths or injuries in the fire, and information updates regarding the developing process will be provided by our Governor's Office."

SPREAD TO WOODED AREA

According to IHA, sparks from the fire spread to a wooded area near the factory due to the wind. The fire that broke out in the wooded area was brought under control in a short time before it could grow, with the intervention of a TOMA (water cannon vehicle). Those moments were captured from the air by a drone. Teams are continuing their efforts to extinguish the fire at the factory and prevent the flames from spreading to the forest.
