Fahrettin Altun targets CHP! 'One of their greatest desires...'
Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has targeted the CHP, which has called for a boycott of certain television channels.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel initiated a boycott call following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which includes channels described as pro-government. Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has responded to this call.
Quoting the list of channels targeted for boycott from the CHP's social media account, Altun targeted the CHP in a statement on his X account.
"We know very well that one of the greatest desires of the main opposition party is a uniform, colorless media that exists only within its own bubble and under its own control," Altun said, adding, “We call on the CHP to abandon, as soon as possible, its habit and mindset of disregarding the national will and curbing freedoms—a stance it has held for decades despite seeing no benefit from it.”
The full text of Altun's statement on his X account is as follows:
“While the world agenda is occupied with very important issues such as wars and geopolitical conflicts, the main opposition party's agenda is once again Jacobinism, once again discrimination…
The CHP, which once again reveals its intolerance for the existence of different voices, ideas, and interpretations, is imposing a boycott on its members and voters against media organizations that convey the truth to our nation with local and national broadcasting policies.
We know very well that one of the greatest desires of the main opposition party, which has shown examples of this oppressive and primitive attitude toward freedom of expression and press freedom hundreds of times before, is a uniform, colorless media that exists only within its own bubble and under its own control.
We believe that the “YOU WILL NOT WATCH THIS,” “YOU WILL NOT VISIT THESE PLACES” approach will be rejected, first and foremost, by the very voters this malignant mentality seeks to suppress.
We call on the CHP to abandon, as soon as possible, its habit and mindset of disregarding the national will and curbing freedoms—a stance it has held for decades despite seeing no benefit from it.
In such times when Turkey needs unity and integrity more than ever, we believe that everyone should contribute to meeting on the most reasonable framework and the most common ground possible, and we do not want discrimination, top-down imposition, or hatred to be fueled by political organizations and individuals.
Regardless of their ideas, approaches, or political leanings, we, as the Presidential Communications Directorate, will continue to work to ensure that our media organizations, which prioritize the national interest above all else, reflect the truth and reality, and pursue nothing but the truth, can continue their work without being under pressure.”
