The fugitive owners of Kervan Pastanesi, who were found primarily at fault for the collapse of the Ezgi Apartment building—which became a tomb for 35 people during the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş—have not been caught for 229 days. Relatives of those who lost their lives have expressed their outrage that Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel, whose legal defense is being handled by Prof. Dr. Ersan Şen, remain at large.

Families demand the ice cream shop owners be caught! They caused the deaths of 35 people and have been fugitives for 229 days

The fugitive owners of Kervan Pastanesi, who caused the collapse of the Ezgi Apartment building where 35 people lost their lives in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş, have not been found for 229 days.

In the 10-story Ezgi Apartment building, where only the building superintendent Mulla Kenger and his son Mesut Kenger were rescued alive, 35 people lost their lives.

THEY WERE DEEMED PRIMARILY AT FAULT

According to a report compiled by BirGün; the expert report prepared by Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) stated that the contractor who built the building and Kervan Pastanesi, which carried out renovations, were primarily at fault for the collapse.

KTÜ's report explained that holes were drilled into the curtain wall of Kervan Pastanesi for ventilation, a confined column between the ground floor and the mezzanine was cut, and the pastry shop opened a void in the slab for a service elevator that was not in the static or architectural plans.

ERSAN ŞEN HAS TAKEN ON THEIR DEFENSE

Following the KTÜ report, the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an order for Kervan Pastanesi owners Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel to be brought to the prosecutor's office. However, they could not be found at their registered addresses, despite an indictment being prepared against Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel for the crimes of “causing death and injury by probable intent,” with a requested prison sentence of up to 876 years and 6 months each.

Relatives of those who lost their lives in the Ezgi Apartment are outraged that Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel, who have been fugitives for 229 days and whose legal defense is being handled by Prof. Dr. Ersan Şen, have not been caught.

THE FUGITIVES' ICE CREAM WAS DISTRIBUTED AT A SCHOOL

On the other hand, the fugitive Kervancıoğlu has photographs with many AKP members, most notably President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his son Bilal Erdoğan

In recent days, AKP Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım visited the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Primary School and distributed “Alpedo” brand ice cream to the students.

The owners of Alpedo ice cream are Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel.
