Fan who threw lighter onto pitch during derby receives ban
The fan who threw a lighter that struck Kazımcan Karataş during the Fenerbahçe–Galatasaray derby has been taken into custody. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the suspect has also been banned from attending sports events for one year.
The Fenerbahçe–Galatasaray derby, played in Kadıköy during the 14th week of the Süper Lig, made headlines due to foreign objects thrown onto the pitch. While the match ended in a 1-1 draw, a lighter thrown from the stands struck Kazımcan Karataş during the celebrations following the goal scored by Galatasaray's Sane.
As the yellow-red team took a 1-0 lead with Sane's goal, the players' celebration was cut short. Medical teams intervened after the lighter thrown from the sidelines hit Kazımcan Karataş.
SUSPECT FAN RECEIVES BAN
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding the incident. The prosecutor's office announced that the fan who threw the foreign object onto the pitch was identified and taken into custody. The statement also noted that a one-year ban from sports events has been imposed on the suspect.
