Farmer protests in Europe spread to Czechia: Manure dumped in front of the Government Office!

The reaction of farmers in European countries to agricultural policies continues.

Hundreds of farmers set out from different parts of Czechia, forming a convoy with their tractors and arriving in the capital, Prague.

Blocking roads with their tractors and causing traffic congestion, the farmers gathered in front of the Government Office. The farmers protested the agricultural policies by dumping animal manure in front of the Government Office.

Czech Chamber of Agriculture President Jan Dolezal said in a statement before the protest, "The situation is not good and it is constantly getting worse. When the coalition government lacks the political will, we need to ask for help in the public eye."

MINISTER REACTED

Minister of Agriculture Marek Vyborny stated in a post on his social media account, "I respect everyone's right to protest and I am ready for a fair discussion with the farmers. I also expect an honest approach from the organizers who promised that they would not block traffic in Prague, including public transport. I do not see the manure dumped on the tram tracks as such an approach."

WHAT DO THE FARMERS WANT?

The Czech Chamber of Agriculture is calling for a reduction in property taxes on agricultural land, the provision of subsidies in line with 2022 levels and programs to support employment in farming, the removal of restrictions brought by the EU's Green Deal plan to combat climate change, and an end to unfair competition arising from imported products, particularly those from Ukraine.
