Faruk Bildirici's take on Can Holding: The government leaves two paths

Within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a trustee was appointed to Can Holding. A total of 121 companies, primarily Show TV, Habertürk, and Bloomberg HT under the holding, were seized. The management of the companies was transferred to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF).

"THE METHOD USED FOR FLASH HABER WAS REPEATED"

Media Ombudsman Faruk Bildirici compared the process to the "method used in the co-opting of Flash Haber" in a post on his social media account. Bildirici stated that the operation against Can Holding proceeded in the same way.

Bildirici used the following expressions:

"The method used in the co-opting of Flash Haber was repeated exactly in Habertürk, Bloomberg HT, and Show TV. First, despite the question marks, approval was given for Can Holding to purchase Ciner Media; now, an investigation has been launched and it has been transferred to the SDIF!"

"IF THE WAY HAD NOT BEEN CLEARED FOR THE SALE, THIS TRANSFER WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED"

Bildirici also drew attention to the process of Can Holding's purchase of Ciner Media:

"Whatever was going on, the sales process continued for months. If the Competition Authority had not decided that the sale was not subject to permission, or if someone had not cleared the way for this sale, such a transfer could not have happened!"

"TWO OPTIONS LEFT: EITHER THE SDIF OR RTÜK"

Stating that the government puts pressure on media organizations that are not under its full control, Bildirici said the following:

"The government now leaves two paths for media organizations that are not under its full control; either being transferred to the SDIF or being subjected to RTÜK's penalties!"
