An international fraud case was filed at the Adana 1st High Criminal Court in 1996, accusing a company established by A.B. (54) of defrauding approximately 1 million TL (1 trillion old TL) from 100 German and 300 Turkish businessmen. 

Nine people, including Uğur Mersinli, who was a police chief at the time, were tried in the case. 

It was learned that Mersinli was suspended while the trial was ongoing, but was found innocent at the end of the proceedings and returned to his profession.
