Father of child sexually abused by over 40 people speaks to 12punto: A 15-year-old child cannot be asked for consent

The father of M.İ., who was subjected to sexual abuse by more than forty men for 4 months in 2019 (the statement given by the abused child regarding the number of defendants is taken as the basis), was forced by the main defendants of the incident to meet with other men, became pregnant due to the sexual abuse she was subjected to, underwent an abortion procedure, and was 15 years old at the time the aforementioned crimes were committed, spoke to 12punto.

All defendants in the file are currently free.

"A 15-YEAR-OLD CHILD CANNOT BE ASKED FOR CONSENT"

Stating that he believes the defendants will be acquitted by the Court of Appeal as well, according to the justice system in Turkey, the father, Y.İ., said, "Turkey is not a state of law. A 15-year-old child cannot be asked for consent. At that age, she cannot perform any official transactions, yet they say 'she consented.' How can they be acquitted of the most disgusting crime in the world? Is there no penalty for this crime in Turkey?"

The father emphasized that tens of thousands of children were subjected to abuse in Turkey in 2023, stating that there are indirectly millions of victims.

"ARTICLE 104 IS THE POWER OF RECEP TAYYİP ERDOĞAN"

Stating that as a father, he does not trust the justice system in Turkey, Y.İ. drew attention to the impunity policy applied to child abuse with the following words:

"This Republic gifted April 23 to children. But now we are talking about the consent of a child who has been abused. Article 104 is the power of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Those who claim to be Muslim are setting rules that do not exist in the Islamic faith. Have you driven a stake into this world?"

"IF SEEKING JUSTICE IS A CRIME, THEN I AM COMMITTING A CRIME"

Stating that he has applied to many institutions and ministries, the father continues his struggle so that other children are not subjected to abuse:

"There is no place I haven't applied to. I have written petitions to the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Family many times. If a person seeking justice is a crime, then I am committing a crime. I am seeking justice so that this crime does not happen to other children."

Editor's note: Due to the best interests of the child, the names of the child and her family, the details of the location where the crime was committed, and the names of the defendants mentioned in the file have been kept confidential in this report.
