Erol Akman, father of murdered courier Ata Emre Akman, speaks for the first time: 'I couldn't protect my child'
Erol Akman, the father of Ata Emre Akman, who was brutally murdered in Balıkesir, spoke for the first time following the incident. Retired Colonel Erol Akman said, "I protected and looked after thousands of children, but I could not protect my own child."
20-year-old Ata Emre Akman, who lived in Istanbul and had enrolled in the Tourism Guidance Department of Balıkesir University's Faculty of Tourism one year ago, lost his life on May 11 after being attacked with a knife by E.Ö. while returning from a delivery in Emir Street, Karaoğlan Neighborhood, Karesi district of Balıkesir.
The grieving mother of university student Ata Emre Akman, Zuhal Akman, alleged that the perpetrator of the attack, E.Ö., was incited by his father.
'HE HAD A DREAM OF GOING TO LISBON'
Stating that Ata Emre Akman had started the job about a week before the attack and wanted to surprise her on Mother's Day with the money he earned, mother Akman said, "Ata was working for his own independence. Neither Ata nor we had any financial difficulties. Because this child worked even at the age of 13 and bought himself an electric guitar. He had a plan to work for a short time and surprise me for Mother's Day, and well, this is the surprise that happened.
I called Ata that night, he sent it to voicemail and texted, 'Mom, I'll call you later,' and then I learned he was working, making deliveries. He called half an hour later, and we laughed. He had a dream of going to Lisbon, and I had a dream of going to Paris," she said.
'IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND THE MINDS OF THESE KILLERS'
Speaking to Ntv, father Erol Akman said, "My son was killed while working at a pizza shop and delivering pizza to a customer. This tragic event could have happened to anyone else here. It is impossible to understand the minds of these killers," he stated.
