The AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency will hold a “Great Palestine Rally” at Atatürk Airport on Saturday, October 28. While AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to attend the rally, the fact that it is being held one day before Republic Day has sparked reactions.

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, in an article titled “Days have been jumbled” published on his own website, reacted to the rally being held one day before October 29 with the following statements:

"Bravo.

I congratulate you all.

You are so “local” and so “national” that…

Throughout this entire year, which is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic, you didn't even lift a finger.

You didn't do a single thing, neither concrete nor abstract, for the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

No scientific study, no proper meeting, no symposium, no book, no concert, no anthem, no rally where the Republic would be celebrated with enthusiasm, nothing.

You didn't even explain, show, or let anything be shown to students in schools.

And now we have reached the final week.

Next Sunday is the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic.

You decided to organize a rally exactly one day before that day, on October 28.

On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Republic, you are holding a “Great Palestine Rally.”

It is so clear, so obvious, so manifest that you aim to overshadow the 100th Republic Day to be celebrated the next day, the most sacred national day of this country!

How you forget that if it weren't for this Republic, you wouldn't be sitting in the seats and positions that determine Turkey's fate, you wouldn't even be able to leave your village.

Don't you even know that you owe your current power and even your very existence to the Republic!

You could have held that rally on Monday.

But you chose October 28…

Did you think we didn't know why!

Shame on you!"
