Fatih Altaylı reacts to Erdoğan on the Istanbul Convention: He is attacking his own achievement as 'perverted and marginal'!

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted the Istanbul Convention, which he himself signed in 2011, during his speech on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. 

Erdoğan stated, "Our withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, which had become a material for exploitation by marginal groups and perverted movements, has not had the slightest negative impact on women's rights or the fight against violence directed at them. Because the real concrete tools of this struggle are the legislation we have incorporated into our legal system, primarily Law No. 6284, and the transformation we have achieved in mindsets."

Journalist Fatih Altaylı reacted to these remarks by Erdoğan. Pointing out that Erdoğan signed the Istanbul Convention in 2011 and had it ratified by Parliament, Altaylı remarked, "He is attacking the Istanbul Convention, which was his own achievement, by calling it 'perverted and marginal'!"

In his column, Altaylı wrote the following:

"Now, Erdoğan, who signed that convention and had it ratified in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, describes this convention as 'a material for exploitation by marginal perverts.'

I will not go into the content of the convention or anything like that. To me, the real problem is something else entirely.

The AK Party is, once again, complaining about a job it did itself, a legal regulation it introduced; and beyond just complaining, it is attacking its own achievement as 'perverted and marginal.'

Just like how it dislikes the Constitution it made only five years ago, is uncomfortable with the right to individual application to the Constitutional Court that it introduced, blames the Constitutional Court it once took refuge in, and takes refuge in the Court of Cassation it once blamed; it is as if it regrets everything it has done after a while.

And now, this AK Party or this mentality wants to change the Constitution once again. Rest assured, in 5 years, they will say, 'This constitution turned out to be very wrong. Let's change it again.' Because a party's work is its mirror, not its words. And from an administration so full of regrets, 'nothing good will come.'"
