Fatih Altaylı reacts to 'national mourning' and 'moment of silence': 'You've overdone it'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı reacted to the declaration of 3 days of mourning in Turkey following the deaths of many people in a hospital bombed in Palestine during the ongoing war with Israel, and the subsequent decision to hold a one-minute moment of silence in schools, by saying, "You've overdone it."

"Of course we are saddened by every innocent person who dies, every civilian who falls victim to an attack, and every child whose future is darkened; of course our hearts are bleeding," said Altaylı, adding, "But aren't we exaggerating a bit! First, we declared 3 days of mourning. To be honest, it didn't sit well with me to declare mourning for those who didn't even mourn for a single day during our earthquake tragedy. But we said, 'Let's be the ones to show humanity,' with this nation's usual mature attitude. Now, there is also going to be a 1-minute moment of silence in schools in the morning 'for those who lost their lives in Palestine'! I think you've really overdone it now."

Altaylı wrote, "Instead of doing this, wouldn't you be doing a greater good if you arranged a plane or a ship and sent those who incite the public, starting with Halil Konakçı, to Gaza to fight!"
