Fatih Altaylı reveals the truth behind Cem Küçük's departure from TGRT: Old issues
Cem Küçük, who was alleged to have left TGRT due to his comments regarding Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the 'absolute nullity' (mutlak butlan) ruling, had denied these claims in a statement. Journalist Fatih Altaylı stated in his column that the departure was rooted in older issues.
In his column today, Altaylı spoke about Cem Küçük's departure from TGRT Haber and Türkiye newspaper. Altaylı stated, "It is said that the departure is due to more deep-rooted, older issues, particularly the growing discomfort caused by Küçük's portrayal of himself for a period as a 'representative of the state and the deep state'."
Cem Küçük, who confirmed his departure from TGRT Haber and Türkiye newspaper, said that the reason for his departure was not his views on the 'absolute nullity ruling' or Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP chairmanship by a court decision.
The section of Altaylı's column titled "Just when he started making the right comments" is as follows:
"As you know, I haven't mentioned Cem Küçük's name for years.
I didn't see him as someone I could engage with. He was among those I considered non-existent. I knew he wasn't stupid or ignorant because of İlber Ortaylı, which is why his malice was an even more unacceptable situation for me.
Recently, in his broadcasts on TGRT, he had evolved into a more reasonable, more rational, and perhaps somewhat more conscientious commentator.
That is why I mentioned his name, perhaps for the first time, in a column a few months or weeks ago. I don't remember exactly.
I saw that he made correct comments after the nullity ruling as well.
And yesterday, it was announced that his relationship with TGRT Haber had been severed.
I don't remember ever wanting a journalist to be fired or lose their job in my entire life. I feel sad when any journalist is fired, no matter who they are.
I learned that Küçük was fired from a message from a figure close to the government, saying, 'Cem Küçük has also bid farewell to the island.'
Later, Küçük made a statement, saying, 'The reason for my departure is not the nullity ruling or my different stance on the New Party issue.' The information I received is also that Küçük's departure is not due to him thinking differently from Barış Yarkadaş or his criticisms of the CHP or his belittling of the CHP.
It is said that the departure is due to more deep-rooted, older issues, particularly the growing discomfort caused by Küçük's portrayal of himself for a period as a 'representative of the state and the deep state'.
If so, we will see other reflections of this soon."
