Fatih Erbakan announces: New Welfare Party will vote 'abstain' on framework law

The framework law prepared within the scope of the second resolution process was accepted in the TBMM Justice Commission with the votes of some deputies from the AKP, DEM, MHP, CHP, the New Path Group, and the NEW Party.

The legislative proposal will be discussed in the TBMM General Assembly today.

New Welfare Party (YRP) Chairman Fatih Erbakan, who had previously called for a 'referendum' regarding the framework law, made a statement on his social media account before the critical meeting in the TBMM.

Announcing that his party will vote 'abstain' on the framework law proposal, Erbakan used the following expressions:

"As is known, the legislative proposal, which is called a 'framework law' and is announced as the first step of the aforementioned 'process' about which we unfortunately have no information regarding its details, has been submitted to the TBMM. The first thing that needs to be said regarding the legislative proposal that passed the Commission is that this proposal has nothing to do with our millions of Kurdish brothers and sisters. The issues included in the proposal regarding the regulation of the execution system specifically for an organization do not bring any improvement to our Kurdish brothers and sisters in terms of freedom, human rights, and equality; they only include the release (a covert amnesty) of terrorists who are members of the PKK/KCK.

Therefore, the idea that these articles will establish Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood and deliver the long-awaited fundamental rights to our Kurdish brothers and sisters is completely baseless. The provisions in question are aimed not at national solidarity and social integration, but at granting a blanket amnesty to terrorists who are members of the PKK/KCK, including those who have received aggravated life sentences, without even requiring any condition of remorse.

In addition to these concerns, where we draw attention to the contradictions regarding our Constitution and penal execution system, we do not find it appropriate to say 'no' to this proposal due to the provisions it contains regarding the termination of the de facto existence of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization and all related entities, and the verification by the Republic of Turkey authorities of the destruction of all kinds of weapons and ammunition in their possession, thus ensuring the liquidation of the organization.

On the other hand; since it includes the blanket amnesty of terrorists who are members of the PKK/KCK, both those in the mountain cadres and those serving their sentences in prisons, and the restoration of their political rights within 2 to 3 years, we also consider voting 'yes' to this proposal as a heavy burden of responsibility.

As we have been expressing for a long time as the New Welfare Party, the decision regarding the fate of terrorists who are members of the PKK/KCK should not be made by state cadres or government partners, but by our martyrs' families and veterans, that is, our nation; the amnesty scope of the 'framework law' should be taken directly to a referendum. Due to the mentioned reasons and the uncertainties regarding the subsequent steps involved in the process, we present to our dear nation that we, as the New Welfare Party, will vote 'abstain' on the 'framework law'."
